It has been brought to our attention by HSE/Gas Safe that some gas fitters & gas service engineers have been found working out of scope in relation to medium pressure meters that do not have a meter inlet valve (MIV). To work on these installations, the engineer must have REGT1.

Whilst REGT1 is not mandatory for Gas Safe Registration, HSE/Gas Safe recommend that Gas engineers wishing to remain compliant with legislation, complete REGT1 (the qualification allows them to test and admit natural gas through a medium pressure regulator when in use with a domestic size gas meter installation that does not have a MIV installed). The MIV is a requirement of BS6400. The MIV is an additional valve between the regulator and the meter.

Current CCN1 qualifications, permit only low pressure testing. On a medium pressure service & in the absence of a Meter Inlet Valve between the regulator & the meter inlet, REGT1 is required.

It is estimated that 50 – 60% of the gas network in Belfast area is medium pressure & that figure could be as high as 90% outside Belfast. On mainland UK, the figure is thought to be approx.10%.

In response to the demand of our customers, CCTS be running additional REGT1 training & Assessment courses and, *will open the centre out of ours for those wishing to upgrade on weeknights or weekends.

CPA1 - Combustion analysis prerequisite

CPA1 - Analyser course - prerequisite from 1 February 2010

New Strategic Management Board (SMB) ratified the following decisions: that competence to use a flue gas analyser (module CPA1 in ACS terms) will become a prerequisite for anyone undertaking either of the ACS appliance modules HTR1 or CEN1 with effect from 1 February 2010.

Don't be caught out servicing or commissioning without current assessed competence in the use of an electronic flue gas analyser (CPA 1). This could be considered as presenting a significant risk to consumers.
